Charleston Battery comes into the contest as one of the strongest teams in the Eastern Conference. The squad leads the USL Championship with 50 goals in the regular season. Forward Maalique Foster leads the way for the South Carolina club, tallying nine goals in regular season play to round out the top-10 scorers in the USL Championship. However, contributions for Charleston come from every corner. Besides Foster, four other Charleston players have scored four or more goals on the season. The club also boasts a stout defense, earning nine clean sheets in 25 games. Both of those marks power Charleston’s second-best goal differential in the USL at +19, making the quest for a result against the South Carolina side challenging.

RIFC will enter a fortress at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium, as Charleston Battery are one of the strongest teams on its home pitch in the league. The squad’s nine regular season home wins leads the USL in 2026. Thirty-five of Charleston’s 50 goals have been scored on its home field, including a pair of 5-0 victories against Brooklyn FC (Aug. 1) and Miami FC (Aug. 24). International Absences
Rhode Island FC will be without two of its midfielders during this crucial postseason push. Midfielders Jojea Kwizera and Dwayne Atkinson will miss three contests, beginning Saturday against Charleston, for international obligations in the upcoming September/October FIFA international window. Kwizera returns for his club-leading eleventh international call-up for Rwanda and his third this season, joining the squad for two qualifying games for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Kwizera has played every minute in the month of September for RIFC, tallying a goal and an assist in that three-game span. Atkinson joins Jamaica for the third time this season for the CONCACAF Nations League Group Stage. He has appeared for the Ocean State club in every regular season game since May 30.

In the two teams’ latest matchup, RIFC took its largest-margin victory of the season, blanking Charleston in a memorable 4-0 win at Centreville Bank Stadium in the first leg of the inaugural Breeze Cup. For a game that could hold heavy playoff implications, RIFC has existing postseason experience against Charleston to draw back on, as the Ocean State club has eliminated Charleston in back-to-back seasons.
