Dwayne Atkinson signed with Rhode Island FC on Aug. 7, 2025, on a permanent transfer from Jamaican Premier League side Cavalier FC. He enters his first full season with RIFC in 2026 after joining the club midway through the 2025 campaign.
2025: After joining RIFC midseason, Atkinson made one start in 12 appearances, netting one goal in 359 minutes across all competitions. He memorably scored the lone goal just two minutes after coming off the bench in RIFC’s USL Cup Quarterfinal win vs. Birmingham Legion FC on Aug. 20, 2025, scoring his first RIFC goal in just his second appearance for the club to give the Ocean State club its first-ever cup win at home.
Before RIFC: The 23-year-old Jamaican international joined the Ocean State club during the 2025 season after leading Cavalier FC to three Jamaican Premier League titles and one CONCACAF Caribbean Cup title in five seasons, scoring 50 goals in more than 130 career appearances for his hometown club. During the 2024/25 Jamaican Premier League season, Atkinson made 41 appearances across all competitions, including all five games of the club’s playoff run to its second-straight Jamaican Premier League title. He scored a career-best 19 goals, including a stretch of 11 goal contributions in seven games in Cavalier FC’s journey to its first-ever CONCACAF Caribbean Cup title. Prior to his breakout season in 2024/25, Atkinson enjoyed steady success with Cavalier FC after signing his first professional deal with the Kingston-based club in 2018. Through seven seasons, the midfielder netted an impressive 50 goals and added nine assists, leading the club to the Jamaican Premier League title in 2021, 2024 and 2025. At the international level, Atkinson has made six appearances for the Jamaican National Team.
