As the race for the playoffs intensifies, Rhode Island FC sits eighth in the Eastern Conference standings, just five points behind fifth-place LouCity and six points shy of the final home playoff spot. With two games in hand, Saturday presents a real opportunity to close the gap as RIFC aims to climb the table in the final two months of the regular season. The Ocean State club has won three-straight games at home, but will face a tough test vs. Louisville, having dropped the last three matchups between the two sides. Back on Track
Louisville City FC will look to snap a two-game winless skid on Saturday, having won just one of its last five games. The club heads to Pawtucket following a 2-1 loss to Indy Eleven on Aug. 22 and a scoreless tie vs. Detroit City FC on Aug. 29. After topping the regular-season table and winning the USL Championship Players’ Shield in back-to-back seasons, LouCity currently sits in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 9W-8L-5T record. Louisville’s eight losses are the most it has suffered since the 2023 season and mark just its second 8+ loss season since 2019, with the club losing just five games across the 2024 and 2025 seasons combined.
High-Flying Attack
Under interim Head Coach Simon Bird, LouCity boasts a high-flying attack, scoring a league fourth-best 37 goals. Louisville’s scoreless tie vs. Detroit was the first time it had been shutout in 10 regular-season games dating back to May 31, and it has been held scoreless just four times in 21 games this season. Louisville has not been shutout away from Lynn Family Stadium this season, scoring multiple goals in six of its 11 regular-season road games. Louisville has scored multiple goals in 10 regular-season games this season, posting six 3+ goal games and three four-goal performances, including its 4-2 win vs. Rhode Island FC on March 28. Jansen Wilson leads the Louisville attack with seven goals in the regular season, adding another four goals in five Prinx Tires USL Cup appearances. Chris Donovan follows closely behind with six goals on the year, joining Wilson and eight other players in scoring multiple goals for Louisville in the regular season.
Last Time Out
Louisville City FC were held scoreless at Lynn Family Stadium for the first time since May 31 on Saturday, splitting a scoreless tie with Detroit City FC. While the attack was stifled for the first time in nearly three months at home, the game showed defensive improvements for Louisville, who had previously conceded 36 goals – the fourth-highest total in the league – through its first 20 regular-season games. The clean sheet was LouCity’s first in six league games and fifth of the regular season, fueled by a pair of saves by shot-stopper Danny Faundez. Although the hosts held a 15-10 shot advantage, including an 8-3 shot advantage in the second half, Detroit’s back line was equally strong as both sides split the points in Kentucky.

After falling 1-0 to 2025 Western Conference Champion FC Tulsa on Aug. 29, RIFC will return to a venue where it has been near-unbeatable this season. In 15 home games across all competitions at Centreville Bank Stadium, Rhode Island FC is 8W-1L-6T. It has not lost in eight-straight home games dating back to May 2, and it has won its last three games at Centreville Bank Stadium. In that three-game stretch, RIFC has out-scored its opponents 6-1, keeping back-to-back clean sheets against regional rival Hartford Athletic on July 18 and 2024 USL Championship winners Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Aug. 8. RIFC’s lone loss on May 2, a 3-1 defeat vs. Birmingham Legion FC, marked the only time it has conceded multiple goals at home in 2026.
New-Look Front Line
Following the departure of RIFC’s all-time leading goalscorer, JJ WIlliams, to Scottish club Heart of Midlothian FC for a club-record fee, RIFC announced the signing of forward Stas Korzeniowski from MLS club Philadelphia Union on Aug. 27. The 6-4 striker joined RIFC after leading Union II with 12 goals in 25 appearances last season, and scoring an additional 10 goals in just eight games to begin the 2026 campaign. Korzeniowski made his RIFC debut off the bench in Tulsa, entering the game in the 58th minute and taking two shots. RIFC was also bolstered by the addition of 6-4 English forward Osman Foyo, who made his second appearance for RIFC in Tulsa. In his club debut vs. Monterey Bay FC on Aug. 22, the crafty forward led the team with three shots in the box and finished second with four total shots in just 10 minutes, showcasing his speed and technical ability with several dangerous chances in a short stint. He finished his second appearance in Tulsa with a perfect 7-7 passing completion rate.

Rhode Island FC’s history with Louisville City FC is one of the most memorable in the Ocean State club’s young history. Although Louisville has won three-straight games in the all-time series and holds a 3W-2L-1T record vs. RIFC, the first two meetings between the two sides in 2024 handed RIFC two of its most historic wins ever. In the first meeting between the two sides on June 22, 2024, RIFC became the first opposing team to ever score five goals at Lynn Family Stadium and the first team to win at Louisville in 2024 with a commanding 5-2 victory. It returned to Lynn Family Stadium on Nov. 9, 2024, for the Eastern Conference Semifinal and repeated the incredible feat, blanking LouCity 3-0 and preventing the Kentucky side from reaching the Eastern Conference Final for the first time in its ten-year history. Since then, Louisville has gotten its revenge, most recently picking up its third-straight win vs. RIFC in a back-and-forth 4-2 victory on March 21 at Lynn Family Stadium.
