Osman Foyo scores first career goal to split the points vs. defending champions
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (Oct. 17, 2026) – Rhode Island FC and Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC played to a dramatic 1-1 tie at Centreville Bank Stadium on Saturday, closing out the Ocean State club’s regular-season home slate with a hard-fought result vs. the defending champions. Forward Osman Foyo’s first career RIFC goal was the highlight of a dynamic attacking performance for the hosts, but a late stoppage-time equalizer saw both teams split the points on Fan Appreciation Night in Pawtucket.
Rhode Island FC (12W-11T-6T) enjoyed the majority of the attacking opportunities in the first half, out-shooting Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (12W-11T-6T) 7-1. The Ocean State club nearly opened the scoring 32 minutes in when defender Frank Nodarse nodded midfielder Jojea Kwizera’s left-wing free kick goalward, but goalkeeper Nico Campuzano got in front of the shot to scoop up the effort.
Four minutes later, defender Nick Scardina forced a dangerous final third turnover, combining with defender Karifa Yao to feed Kwizera at the top of the box. Kwizera quickly took a touch and fizzed a shot towards the near post, but Campuzano came to the rescue once again with an athletic diving stop. The Pittsburgh goalkeeper was called into action once again in the 41st minute when Foyo’s deflected cross fell to forward Leo Afonso in the box, who lined a low shot on frame that Campuzano corralled.
The second half required more goalkeeping heroics from Campuzano as the hosts continued to push towards goal. The shot-stopper came up with a massive stop in the 56th minute to keep the game level, diving left to deny Afonso’s penalty kick.
Despite the penalty save, RIFC eventually broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute when Foyo got on the end of Scardina’s ball down the left wing, dribbling into the box and spinning around his defender in style. Taking the ball onto his left foot, the forward tucked a low finish into the far-side netting to score his first career goal for the Ocean State club.
Despite out-shooting Pittsburgh 18-3 in a dominant attacking performance, Pittsburgh struck back with its first and only shot on target in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time. Desperate to salvage a point, the ‘Hounds heaved a late cross into the box, which Jackson Wälti flicked on to Eliot Goldthorp. Goldthorp quickly fired a close-range shot into the bottom-right corner, evading an outstretched Koke Vegas and finding the back of the net to rescue a 1-1 result.
Rhode Island FC will conclude the 2026 regular season when it travels to Trinity Health Stadium to take on Hartford Athletic on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7:00 p.m., before officially kicking off its third-straight playoff campaign in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on the weekend of Oct. 31.
