PROFILE
Shapiro-Thompson joined Rhode Island FC after spending his first professional season with New York Red Bulls II in 2023. After spending the majority of the 2024 season recovering from injury, Shapiro-Thompson made three appearances at the tail end of the season, including a 28-minute shift in the 2024 USL Championship Final. The midfielder’s professional career began when he was selected 79th overall in the third round of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft. He went on to score one goal in 20 appearances during the 2023 MLS Next Pro season and registered one appearance with the New York Red Bulls’ first team. A 2022 Boston College graduate, Shapiro-Thompson enjoyed a consistent collegiate career, scoring six goals and assisting five across three NCAA seasons. He started 33 games in 36 appearances in Chestnut Hill and logged a total of 2,699 career minutes. A native of Worthington, Massachusetts, Shapiro-Thompson continued his youth career with the New England Revolution Academy before moving overseas in 2017, where he split a pair of seasons with the academies of Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb and Polish club Legia Warsaw. Shapiro-Thompson’s professional career began in 2018 with Legia Warsaw’s reserve team in the Polish third tier. After one season in Poland, Shapiro-Thompson returned to the U.S. for his collegiate career, where he also played for the Western Mass Pioneers of USL League Two.
